Dayton Rodeo Royalty

Dayton Rodeo Queens

The Dayton Rodeo queens are chosen by the Wranglers Saddle Club.

The junior queen must be eleven to sixteen years old and her parents should be members of the club. The Senior queen must, herself, be a member and have shown enthusiasm for the clubs events. Both queens must own a horse. Queens are nominated and then by secret ballot elected as junior and senior queen.

In years past the queens had to prove their horsemanship before 3 unbiased judges. It was required they put their horse through a pleasure horse type test at the ring masters command. They had to be able to mount and dismount gracefully. The judges then chose the queens. The chosen queens were crowned at the Memorial Day horse show by the queen of the past year. Her duties then begin and carry on through Labor Day.

Current duties of the queens are to lead in all area parades; be active participants in Wranglers Saddle Club activities, the July URA/IRCA rodeo, ride in the Grand Entry of the Labor Day Pro Rodeo performances, herd the roping calves back to their pen during the rodeo and participate in the Rodeo Kids Corral event before each rodeo performance - Make sure to wave to these ladies during the upcoming parades throughout the summer

2024 Dayton Rodeo Sr Queen - Kalie Buenting

Kalie Buenting, 18 year old daughter of Amanda Buenting and the late Jamie Buenting, and I am proud to announce myself as your 2024 Dayton Rodeo Queen!

I have been around horses since a very young age and found a love for them almost immediately. I began getting more involved with riding and rodeo around age 10, and fell in love with barrel racing. Since then I have grown immensely in sportsmanship, horsemanship, and dedication to this amazing sport. I have always had an admiration for the Rodeo Royalty in my area, and vowed that I would one day attempt to hold a title for myself. Years of hard work and commitment have brought me to where I am today; able to realize this dream. The horse that has made this possible for me is Broker, who is my 25 year old quarter horse gelding. His age has never shown through physically, but his intelligence and experience has helped bring me to where I am today, and for that I am forever grateful.

I plan to continue on the path of being involved with equine as a career choice, as I am currently on track to obtain an Assoc. of Animal Science and Assoc. of Arts through Iowa Central Community College in Fort Dodge with plans to transfer to Iowa State for a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine as an Equine Veterinarian.

I am also blessed to say I will be competing on the rodeo team at ICCC as well for the 2024-25 season. This is all made possible through GOD, the support of my mom, family, and close friends whom I am forever thankful for.

2024 Dayton Rodeo Jr Queen - Kyla Egli

Hello! My name is Kyla Egli and I am your 2024 Dayton Rodeo Junior Queen. I am 16 years old and a current Junior at Manson Northwest Webster. I have lived on an acreage and owned horses my entire life. Being involved in my community and school is very important to me. Throughout my high school career, I have been involved in rodeo, volleyball, wrestling, track, 4-H, FFA, Student Council, NHS, and the TAG program. Rodeo has had a huge impact on my life in a very short amount of time. One of the things it has taught me is the importance of going out of my comfort zone and meeting new people. Only being involved with rodeo for the last 3 years, I hope to set an example that it is never too late to start.

Many different opportunities, people, and horses have shaped me into the horsewoman I am today, and I will never take my horses' loyalty and hard work for granted. I am proud of many things, but one of my biggest accomplishments is being able to say I trained my own horse. Cisco is my 5-year-old Palomino gelding and will be my trusty seed for my year representing the Dayton Rodeo as Junior Queen. I hope that my presence in the arena can inspire others to be themselves and step outside their comfort zone!

“Let all that you do be you be done in love” (1 Corinthians 16:14)
