Amateur Events at Dayton Labor Day Rodeo

Amateur Rodeo events at the Dayton Rodeo have been a long standing tradition - From Mutton Bustin', to Jr Bull Riding for the the young cowboys and cowgirls to the long-standing tradition of Wild Horse Racing - the amateur events at the Dayton Rodeo provide entertainment you won't want to miss!

Mutton Bustin' is a crowd favorite!  This is where the young cowboys and cowgirls learn the very first passion of rodeo!  Hanging on for the win, with a few thrills and spills!


Muttin Bustin' event Information:

  • Spots for Mutton Bustin' is limited to 12 riders PER rodeo performance (Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday).
  • Ages 4 - 7 years old and 
  • Weigh limit 60 pounds
  • Protective helmet & vest provided
  • CALL INS ONLY

12 riders per show, No waiting list, No entry fee - NO EARLY CALL INS

One of the most exciting events at the Dayton Rodeo - the Wild Horse Race has been said to be a rodeo itself! 


This long-standing tradition at the Dayton Rodeo dates back to the 1940's and is as unpredictable as it is entertaining!

Wild Horse Race Teams are either crazy or invinsible!?!?  You decide!!!


Wild Horse Race Teams are a team of 3 men (and women) who attempt to hold on to, saddle, and ride the wild horses across the finish line before the timed buzzer goes off -  Get ready for the wildest event in rodeo!


Wild Horse Race information:

  • 3 person teams - all four shows 
  • $40 cash per person, per team
  • Per show 10 teams MAX

Youth Bucking Ponies & Bullriding

Youth Bucking Ponies & Bulls are not for the faint of heart!  Young cowboys are learning their way to be just like the pro-athletes!


Youth Bucking Ponies & Bulls Information: 

  • Limited Entires: 4 mini bulls and 4 bucking ponies per performance
  • Ages 11 and under
  • $50 Fees
  • Added money and buckles to champion and reserve champion

CONTESTANTS DO NOT HAVE TO BE A WSRRA MEMBER TO ENTER


Ranch Saddle Bronc Riding Information: 

  • 8 entries per performance - Can only enter once per performance
  • $50 entry fee
  • 100% payback
  • Payback is 3 places:  50%, 30% & 20%
  • $500 added to payout ($125 added per performance)
  • No one covers, money rolls into next day's performance and so on
  • $500 and an overall champion buckle to the aggregate, high point winner
