Gizmo McCracken

If it's comedy, rodeo style you're looking for, then I'm your man! I have been entertaining rodeo crowds across the country for nearly a decade. Fans at Rodeos such as the Wrangler National Finals, Dodge National Circuit Finals, Cheyenne Frontier Days, as well as the finals of the PRCA Badlands, Prairie, Southeast, and Great Lakes Circuits have laughed themselves silly at such Gizmo specialty acts as Dr. Giz Buckin' Ambulance, Gizmo's Sir-Rink-In Machine featuring Doc the miniature Donkey and many more characters that may pop in that night. Fans attending countless rodeos this year will get the chance to see me in action!

The Gizmo Comedy Show

"Sometimes it just don't seem right to have this much fun and get paid for it." said Dale McCracken. Known on the rodeo Circuits as Gizmo, he has been doing rodeos for 27 years. He travels the country putting on his shows from Canada to Texas, from the east coast to the west coast. The last few years he spent more than half the year on the road, logging some 45,000 miles through dozens of states.

Gizmo started his act as a bullfighting clown and moved into stand-up comedy on a show in Branson, Mo. Gadgets and gizmos that went sour were often part of his routine, hence his name, "Gizmo, World's Greatest Inventor." A lot of clowns and specialty acts sell themselves with a bucking car or a dancing horse, said the clown. "I supply a character. Nobody knows what I'm going to do next, they just have to trust me, Ha!"

Rodeo crowds might meet anyone of his alter egos. Maybe Ozzy Osborne, a wild Jerry Lewis, Dr Giz., Sir-Rink-In Machine, or even Elvis, perhaps an ostrich rider. "There's all different kinds of things that could happen," Gizmo hinted." I like to keep people looking for me and wondering what I'm going to do."

The acts share a high-energy, clean, family-oriented feel. He tries not to do anything that children would be disciplined for if they copied. "I don't want to get them set up for a whoopin," said Gizmo. Which character he becomes depends on the crowd. He "reads" the group, gauging what they would like. Is it a rowdy bunch, or more laid back? Would they appreciate the subtler routines or the big bang? "I love people. I love working the crowd," said Gizmo. He hopes he can help them forget their problems for a while and have a good time, some family fun. "If I can pull that off, I've had a good night," he said.

We are proud to welcome back to our rodeo the 2007 Rodeo Announcer of the Year - Boyd Polhamus!!

Twenty years ago, Boyd Polhamus announced a College Rodeo in Uvalde, Texas. He got the gig by pretending to be a rodeo announcer in his college’s practice arena at the same time he was competing as a cowboy. The pretending ended in October of 1985; and a career was born.

No one, not even Polhamus, could have imagined what the next two decades would bring. His resume now includes nine stints as an announcer at the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas, Nevada. Only Hall of Famers’ Cy Tallion and Bob Tallman have been selected that many times. He’s been selected twice to work the Dodge National Circuit Finals in Pocatello, Idaho. In addition, he’s announced the Montana, Turquoise, Badlands, and Southeastern Circuit Finals, as well as the Texas Circuit Finals ten different times.

In 2000, and again in 20033, he was honored as the WPRA Announcer of the Year, and he’s been a Top Five Finalist for the same honor in the PRCA on nine different occasions.

In 2004, Polhamus announced eleven of the top 30 rodeos in the country and featured an itinerary that took him coast-to-coast and border to border; from San Francisio, CA to New York, NY; and from Del Rio, TX to Minot, ND. He also recorded hundreds of commercials in his home studio in Brenham, TX.

“Better than I deserve…” is Polhamus’ most common response to the question “How are you?” He says that comment most accurately describes both his professional and family life. His career demands nearly 300 travel days per year, and his wife, Sandee, is both his best friend and best advisor.

“There’s too much in my life that is right, that I have no control over, so it’s got to be God,” Polhamus said. “Everything good that’s happened in my life can be traced back to a friend or family member who went out of their way to help me. Well, you don’t buy your friends at a department store; God puts them in your life. I can only hope I’ve treated them as well as they’ve treated me.”

On those rare occasions when he can be found at home, Polhamus enjoys Team Roping, The Green Bay Packers, and working with his cattle on the Band-Aid Ranch in Brenham, TX.
